South Africa’s Education Challenges
The poor quality of South African schooling has been widely confirmed through international tests of mathematics and literacy. Various factors are attributed to the subpar teaching and learning in under resourced schools. These very same factors are what lead to poor discipline, acts of violence and bullying, a lack of values, truancy, absenteeism, late coming and high dropout rates.
The challenges facing the schooling system and particularly schools in marginalized and under resourced communities are immense. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated, evidence based multistakeholder and cross sectoral efforts at both a system and school levels.
